Abstract:
Wood of 5 to 6 years old Eucalyptus species viz. Eucalyptus camaldulensis, E, Kitsoniana, E. microtheca, E.rudis and E.tereticornis was successively extracted with different solvents for extraneous components. The extractives were invariably coloured and the intensity of colour varied with species. The debarked wood was chipped and pulped, using sulphate process. The results indicated that pre-extraction with different solvents decreased the amount of 1% NaOH solubles. E.camaldulensis gave maximum yield of pulp, and its fibres were also strongest. The pulp of all the species tested were easy to bleach.
