Abstract:
Three types of artificial smokes viz: Cow-dung, Cow-dung mixed with Asafoetida and Cow-dung mixed with Peganum harmala L. were used as repellents against D. cucurbitae on melon. These were compared with Dipterex as a standard insecticide. Results indicated that Dipterex gave the best control; reducing the infestation to 1.93% as compared to 13.73% in the control. Asafoetida and Peganum harmala L. brought down the level of infestation respectively. Infestation in case of Cow-dung was 10.06. Changes in infestation were negatively correlated to yield of the melon crops.
