Abstract:
A study was carried out on 100 suspects of tuberculous cervical lymph glands to determine bacteriology. Smear positivity for acid fast bacilli was low but 54 cases were found culture positive out of which 17 had atypical, mainly group II scotochromogenic mycobacteria and four specimens yielded both typical and atypical mycobacteria. Majority of the cases were in the teenage group while 14 out of 54 cases were above 20 years of age. Results of differential tuberculin testing using PPD-S and other antigens for atypical mycobacteria and drug sensitivity testing are discussed alongwith their correlation with the type of mycobacteria isolated. The study undertaken is valuable for future investigation Involving culture work, typing of isolatesdrug sensitivity guinea virulence and histopathology.
