Abstract:
The action of nitric oxide on basic salts like sodium sulphide, sodium thiosulphate, sodium bicarbonate, basic lead acetate has been studied. Based on the quantitative data it has been attempted to find out the possible reaction mechanism. Sodium sulphide gets oxidized to sulphate and thiosulphate with the simultaneous formation of free sulphur and nitrite, while sodium thiosulphate yields sulphur, sulphate and nitrite. Lead acetate & sodium bicarbonate get converted into nitrite only.
