An audit of 100 patients presenting with acute upper GI bleed.

Abstract:
This study was conducted on 100 patients presenting with h/o hematemesis or melena for OGD to know the cause of upper GI bleed. Among these patients, 60 were male and 40 were female. Out of these 100 patients, 30 had Peptic ulcer with overall incidence of 30% and 46 had bleeding from esophageal varices i.e. overall incidence of 46%. Acute gastric erosions were noted that in 19 patients, and only one patient had Mallory weiss tear. It was concluded that esophageal varices are the main cause of GI bleed in our population.
