Abstract:
Seventy five suspected cases of encephalitis were examined. Nine cases, including one of mumps encephalitis, were discovered. Diagnosis of these cases from tuburculous meningitis, in the absence of causative organism in cerebro spinal fluid (CSF), was difficult, but the picture of the two diseases was quite different. High protein, low sugar and high cells remain for over 3 months in tuberculous meningitis and normal CSF with possible elevation of protein, pleocytosis and normal sugar in the case of encephalitis.
