Abstract:
The composition of vegetation and termite fauna and the characteristics of the soil in various irrigated plantations of Pakistan have been described. Dalbergia sissoo predominates in the tree layer while Capparis decidua and Tamarix dioica d o so in the shrub layer of these plantations. In herb and grass layer Cynodon dactylon and Cymbopogon jwarancusa have greater cover in medium-textured and coarse-texture soils, respectively. Soils of a few plots have been found to be moderately saline and slightly sodic. A total of fourteen different termite species belonging to seven genera, i.e. Amitermes, Coptotermes, Heterotermes, Microcerotermes, Microtermes, Odontotermes and Psammotermes have been recorded from the various plots of these plantations.
