Abstract:
Algae are the photosynthetic, non-vascular plants that contain chlorophyll "a" and have simple reproductive structure. They are usually differentiated into various divisions and classes by colours; grass-green, blue-green, brown and red algae etc. and the majority are aquatic. Importance of algae has been shown as significant source of food, nitrogen fixation, soil binding, commercial products which include Agar, carrageenan, diatomaceous earth different minerals and some sort of medicines. Some algae have also been reported for toxic effect.
