Abstract:
Geographical indication and designation of origin is an industrial property right describing a product originated from any region or attributable to any region due to its quality, reputation or other characteristics. Turkey has a very rich potential in terms of geographical indications. In this context, there are 1419 products registered by the Turkish Patent Institute. It has 13 local products (e.g. Antep baklava, Milas and Edremit olive oil, Caglayancerit walnut) registered internationally and by the EU and 44 applications are waiting in line to be registered. Within the scope of sustainable agriculture, it is of great importance that agricultural geographically indicated products are transferred to future generations intact and protected. For all countries, this is considered as a great heritage that is passed on from generation to generation.
