Algae in dry soils of N.W.F.P., Pakistan.

Abstract:
A total of 34 genera and 78 species of algae have been reported from dry lands of Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu and D.1. Khan districts upto a depth of 15 cm. This includes 18 genera and 51 species in Cyanophyceae, 13 genera and 24 species in Chlorophyceae and 3 genera with 3 species in Xanthophyceae. Algal number decreased with increasing depth. Five genera and 14 species were recorded as possible nitrogen-fixers.
