Abstract:
Mercury is a naturally occurring element (liquid metal in elementary form) which can not be created nor destroyed. It can travel long distances and is highly toxic to environment and human health. Mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin makes its way up the food chain into human, causing adverse effects especially on the developing brains. High exposure has resulted in deaths. The present article encompasses the efforts being undertaken by many of the civil society organizations world over for reducing global mercury use and its ultimate elimination.
