Abstract:
The technique of solid state nuclear track detection (SSNTD) is equally useful in science and technology and have some unique advantages over the conventional detection systems (1). Some important characteristics of Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs) are given in the article. Important applications of SSNTD technique in nuclear physics, Geochronology, Cosmology, elemental analysis, seismology, material science and biology which describe the impact of this technique in science and technology are discussed. SSNTD appears to have an upper hand over all other existing system in situations where one has to deal with a variety of reaction products in the presence of high background of unwanted radiation. SSNTD technique has made a strong impact in science and technology in the past and even more future applications of SSNTD in the applied sciences seems to be equally fascinating (1-6).
