Abstract:
Failure of salivary glands to produce saliva is known as xerostomia. Xerostomia is diagnosed by measurement of salivary flow, through siatography with pertechnate. The salivary gland cause partial or complete damage to xerostomia. Chronic xerostomia predisposes to rampant dental caries with subsequent loss of teeth. The treatment of xerostomia changes in salivary gland dysfunction and its removal. The complication of dental caries in xerostomia patients may be avoided by institution of scrupulous, diligent and life long oral hygiene by flossing, brushing and frequent topical 1% sodium gel application.
