Abstract:
Studies were carried out to observe varietal resistance of sunflower germplasms to whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) during autumn 1999. The results indicated that among 14 varieties, SF-187 (V3) had maximum infestation with an average seasonal population of 3.047 whiteflies per leaf. It was followed by T-562 (V5) with an average seasonal population of 2.740 whiteflies per leaf. KRSOTKA (V7) attracted least number of whiteflies which was 1.74 per leaf. The maximum whitefly population in all the varieties was recorded during 3rd and 4th week of September. The results showed that heavy rains decreased the population in 1st week of October. The population then increased during the 2nd week of this month but again declined gradually as the crop attained maturity.
