Abstract:
Khushab bauxite is low grade non-gibbsite (with considerable amount of iron oxide). Lime-Soda Sinter Process can only be used for producing metallurgical grade alumina from this bauxite. Two other deposits consist of reasonably high grade bauxite. The selected process is a general process for producing alumina from lateritic and clayey minerals. All the materials required for the process are abundantly available in the country. All other requisites can also be generated very easily. Utilization of indigenous bauxite is required at all costs because of numerous other benefits. The theoretical yield of the process is almost 86 per cent which is reasonably good. Titanium dioxide and red pigment by-products would certainly make the process feasible.
