Abstract:
The dry matter accumulation studies carried out in 8 inbred lines of maize of different origin sown in complete diallel fashion revealed a linear increase in dry matter production both in inbred lines and crosses from 10th leaf up to dough stage. No relationship existed between dry matter production of initial stages and final stages. A line or cross which produced more dry matter at 10th leaf may not produce more dry matter at final stage. Moreover a great amount of genetic diversity existed in inbred lines i.e. dent X Flint or flint X ent produced more dry matter as compared to both dents or both flints.
