Abstract:
Experiments were carried out in vitro to study the effect of light and temperature on the cultural and morphological characteristics of the colony and sporulation of Alternaria alternata. Maximum growth of the colony and maximum sporulation occurred in continuous light, while minimum growth and minimum sporulation occurred in continuous darkness. But temperature for the optimum growth of colony and maximum sporulation was observed at 30°C. It seems that light stimulates growth sporulation by initiation of metabolic activity and electron transfer system containing a flavo-protein component. Increase in temperature probably accelerates synthetic processes and favour production of spores and colony growth.
