Abstract:
Physical yield response of wheat to soil phosphorus was studied in a pot experiment in the glasshouse of NWFP Agricultural University Peshawar. Soil was a silt loam with 8.45% CaCo3, pH 7.82, 4.2 ppm Olsen P and 0.96% organic matter. Pretreatments were 0,10, 20 and 30 ppm of fertilizer P to ensure that soils varied in initial available P content. P treatment of 10,40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg R. 0/ha were in 6 a randomized complete block with three, replications using 5 kg soil in each pot. P was thoroughly mixed into the soil with basal doses of 120 kd N and 90 kg ,K2O /ha. Wheat yield was increased significantly due to added P in all soil types. Soil and treatment interactions were also significant. Dry matter yield response was linear especially at lower levels of initial soil P levels. Optimum levels of added P were found as 200, 120, 80 and 80 kg P205/ha for initial soil P levels of 4, 14, 24 and 34 ppm P, respectively. Available P content of soils and leaf P content were also increased significantly with applied P levels. Critical level of P in soil was found as 13 ppm.
