Abstract:
A line V- 01078 named as Seher 06 was selected in 2000 on the basis of its attractive plant type, higher grain yield , bold grains and resistance to diseases from wheat material received from CIMMYT. It was subsequently tested in preliminary, regular, provincial and national trials. It consistently proved its superiority over Inqilab-91 during the five years of testing. It topped the preliminary yield trials (normal and short). During 2003-04, it was planted at 26 locations in Punjab province in early and late planting sets of trials and scored the top position beating all entries including lnqilab-91. In national tests conducted by Pakistan Agricultural Research Council during 2004-05 and 2005-06 at more than 32 locations through out Pakistan during November and December plantings. Again Seher 06 excelled all entries including national check Ingilab-9 I. On provincial basis during 2003-04 it gave yield 0.39 and 4.85% more than Ingilab9l in normal and late planting. While, on country basis during 2004-05 and 2005-06 performance was 10% more than Ingilab9l in normal and late planting. It has bold grains (1000 Kernel weight 46.0 in early sowing and 41.80 g in late sowing) and gave higher flour yield. Its chapatti quality is good. It has excellent resistance against yellow and leaf rust; resistance to the later is of slow rusting type. It was being released as a new variety; Seher-06 for general cultivation this year.
