Abstract:
A new genus Neometorchis is described from the liver of the bird Anas sp. The specimens were fixed in F.A.A., stained with Mayer`s carmalum and mounted permanently in Canada balsam by standard procedure. Diagrams were made with a camera lucida and measurements are given length by width in millimeters. The new genus is characterized by having elongate, spatulate body, oral sucker and pharynx small, prepharynx absent, esophagus small, bifurcating far anterior" to acetabulum, acetabulum slightly larger than oral sucker, in anterior quarter of the body, genital opening immediately- or slightly anterior to acetabulum, seminal vesicle long extending far behind the acetabublum, testes tandem situated in posterior extremity of body, transversely flattened. Ovary is irregular or lobed, pre testicular, seminal receptacle large, Laurer`s canal present. Vitellaria, in small follicular, bunches, extracecal, extending behind acetabular to preovarian region, uterus long winding, between ovary to acetabulum, eggs are numerous, small. Excretory vesicle tubular. Genus name refers to its relation with the genus Metorchis of the subfamily and species name refers to distinctly lobed testes.
