Abstract:
The Pilot Windmill Project of WAPDA has indicated that sufficient wind speeds are available for successful operation of windmills in the Mekran Coast and Lower Sind area. The wind belt containing exploitable wind speed and duration extends upto 50 miles inland in Mekran Coastal area west of Karachi. A wind belt of higher average wind speed and duration extending upto 75 miles inland exists throughout Lower Sind area. The operation of the experimental windmills has proved suitable for lifting groundwater for village water supplies, for drinking purposes and other domestic needs and small scale irrigation for vegetable gardening and cattle raising etc.
