Abstract:
High yielding varieties (HYVs) play important role in increasing crop yield due to their resistance against pests. The results of the study carried out during 2004 showed that 66% respondents were using HYVs of wheat, 40% of sugarcane and only 10% of maize in the selected four villages of district Peshawar and Charsada. The main constraints faced by the respondents in adopting HYVs were unavailability of seed and lack of latest knowledge. The main limitations as reported by the respondents were access to water supply, lack of capital, shortage of cultivated land, shortage of labor, lack of technical know how and lack of inputs.
