Abstract:
Responses of Coptotermes heimi. Heterotermes indicola, Odontotermes obesus and Microcerotermes championi to different levels of moisture. including water logging, were investigated. C. heimi and H. indicola found 25% of water holding capacity of the medium as the most favourable levels of moisture for their maximum survival and activity while further increases in moisture content of the medium resulted in a decrease in their survival and activity. O.obesus was found to prefer moderate levels of moisture - - 50% and 100% of water holding capacity of the medium-for its maximum activity and survival, respectively. Fifty percent of water holding capacity of the medium was found to be the most favourable level for maximum survival and activity of M.championi.The results obtained here were in some agreement with the values of water holding capacity of soils in which these species of termites are found in nature.
