Abstract:
The various parent materials (Alluvium, Loess, etc.) of Pakistani soils are calcareous in nature, hence soils formed from these are calcareous and alkaline in reaction. A limited number of soils, which are also not extensive, have been decalcified and that too to a limited depth. These soils occur mostly in the north eastern part of the country. The decalcification has occurred only in soils of Pleistocene or early Holocene age, where climate and relief, etc. conditions were favourable. The decalcification of profiles of these areas has occurred to varying depths. These soils have lime enriched horizon, having invariably a calcic horizon: This calcic horizon is noticeable in the forms of lime concretions of varying sizes.
