Abstract:
The various numerical taxonomy techniques viz., the Coefficients of Correlation, Coefficients of Taxonomic Distance and Coefficients of Association have been used for finding out affinity level in eight Bruchid species viz., Carye-don opacus Arora, C. prosopisus Arora, C. accaciae Gyll., Bruchidius angusti-frons Schilsky, Callosobruchus maculatus (F), Callosobruchus chinensis (L), Caryedon sp., and Caryedon sp. This has revealed that these methods could produce visually identical phenograms of three kinds. Based on similarity of phenograms, three groupings of these techniques have been observed. These are: (i) d, J, RR, D, UN2, K1, K2 and 0, (ii) r, SM, UN1, RT.and UN3 and (iii) UN4, UN5, H, Y and 0. Phenograms from the compound similarity matrics based on correlatitrn coefficient of original similarity matrices and the cophenetic matrices have yielded almost concordant grouping of the methods. A new arrangement of the methods, with four groups viz. Coefficient of Correlation; Coefficient of Taxo-nomic Distance; H, Y, and 0; and all the remaining Coefficients of Association of Attributes, has been proposed.
