Abstract:
The development of naturally coloured cotton for commercial exploitation has been described. In the present study, natural colour of 31 wild and 4 cultivated species were recorded. Interspecific hybridizations conducted at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI), Multan did not produce staple length of an economic value. But through inraspecific hybridization of G. hirsutum., bio-types viz, light green, green, off white, light brown, brown and dark brown were developed having staple length 29mm, 27mm, 32, 28mm, 30mm and 29mm, respectively, to fulfill the requirements of the textile industry. This material has good yield potential and better fibre qualities.
