Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the attitudes of the veterinary students toward effective teaching. A total of 101 veterinary students of both sexes were involved in the study. A questionnaire was designed to accomplish this study. Results indicated that the curriculum was intensive. The students indicated that they face difficulties in finding reference textbooks. Majority of the students mentioned that they perform laboratory work by their hands, and the professors demonstrate practical procedures. Among other findings, 75% of the students participate in surgical operations, 71% visit animal farms regularly and 69% of the students prescribe medication for sick animals under the supervision of professors. The study also revealed that 74% of the professors use varieties of examination types, 62% develop skills to solve practical problems, 46% of the professors take quiz examinations. A recommendation was implemented that the curriculum should be concentrated on how students can use technological information technology to enhance the efficiency and quality of veterinary education. It is concluded that self-directed learning enhances the ability of students to organize, manipulate and retrieve information to solve problems.
