The oxidation of α-amino acids.

Abstract:
The theory of the mechanism of the biochemical oxidation of α -amino acids to α-keto acids originally put forward by knoop has now been amply confirmed and the presence of the hypothetical intermediate, an α-imino acid has been demonstrated. The mechanism of the chemical oxidation of α-amino acids to aldehydes is still not fully clarified and a number of alternative mechanisms are discussed.
