Abstract:
The Betammaribe people reside between the Northeast of Togo and Northwest of Benin. In Togo, they are commonly referred to as Tam They join the Betiabe and Besorube in the neighboring Benin to for Somba people. Historically lacking a izecdentrleaaldership, their society was compelled to adopt a chieftaincy structure due to colonial administrati requirements. In contemporary times, although village chiefs play a cert role in society, the Betammaribe's house, known as "te ktyhee nte ," re seat of authority embodied by the head of the household. This soci cultural production is material and immaterial, constructed following ancestral rules in both practical and symbolic dimensions. The dwelli becomes the quintessential space e wahlelr elements governing individual life and social relationships converge and express themselves. It serves as repository for all symbols constituting the universe of this people. Through publication, we will seek to comprehend the sifgniftihceancehouose in Betammaribe culture, its construction's various stages, and how these peo navigate their relationship with the environment.
