Abstract:
Attempts were made to prove that the progestagen component may affect the incidence of thromboembolism, Relationship between oral contraceptives and thrombolic disease have, however, shown the risk to be greater with the sequential formulations than the combined ones. A number of thromboembolic cases which have indicated increase in blood clotting factors, alternation in platelet behavior and changes in various distensibility and blood flow are caused by oral contraceptives. Oestrogens may be a causative factor. Obese women, women of blood group other than `0` and women above 35 years are unlikely to develop thromboembolic. Previous history of the patient should also be taken into account while treating her with oral contraceptives.
