Abstract:
Urinary tract infection ( UTI) is commonly encountered during childhood but remains difficult to diagnose and evaluate primarily due to problems associated with proper urine sampling , culture techniques and selection of patients for a detailed radiological work-up . In case of a documented culture proven urinary tract infection, vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR) and the presence of congenital malformations of the urinary tract are the most serious risk factors for the development of an ultimate renal cortical scarring in the young patients . Radiological evaluation of kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder with the help of ultrasonography ( USG ), voiding cysto- urethrogram (VCUG ) and / or Dimercapto-succinic acid ( DMSA) scan is important to make a precise diagnosis that is conducive for an appropriate management and outcome
