Weed hosts of Meloidogyne javanica in Tanzanian tobacco fields.

Abstract:
Meloidogyne javanica is a serious pest of tobacco in Tanzania, even on crops grown on land previously fallowed for several years. To determine the status and occurrence of weeds as host for M. javanica a survey was made of 40 previous tobacco fields. The weeds were identified, seed collected and seedlings of the most abundant species exposed to M. javanica in a pot test. Of these two-thirds were hosts and one-third were almost as susceptible as tomato.
