Abstract:
Six species of four genera belonging to the classes Volvophyceae and Desmidophyceae (phylum Volvophycota) were collected from freshwater habitats along G. T. Road between Shahdara and Gujranwala (Pakistan) during 1989 and 1995. They were taxonomically investigated and cytologically examined. This is the first report o f their occurrence from this area, while the presence of Characium strictum A. Braun and Euastrum gemmatum Ralfs is their first record from Pakistan.
