Abstract:
The response of 9 wheat lines i.e. WS-326, WS-355, WS-297, WS-447, WS-450, WS-5, WS-11, WS-443, WS-258 and Daman- 98 were tested at four sites i.e. NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar, Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Cereal Crop Research Institute and Serai-Naurang during the crop season 2002-03. Data was recorded on days to 50% heading, plant height, number of spikes m-2, spikelets spike-1, grains spike-1, 1000- grain weight, and grain yield. There were significant differences (P _ 0.05) in the number of days to 50% heading, plant height and grain yield of the 9 wheat lines and Daman-98 planted at various locations. Line WS-258 had a longer period to 50% heading at all locations. The least number of days to 50% heading were observed in WS-297. WS-5 gave the highest plant height and produced the minimum grain yield among all other lines/variety. The highest grain yield was recorded in WS-11 followed by WS-297. There were significant differences among wheat lines/variety for number of fertile tillers unit area-1, spikelets spike-1, 1000- grain weight and grain yield at NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar location. The data revealed that WS-297 significantly produced maximum number of fertile tillers m-2, and grain yield followed by WS-11. WS-450 when compared with the rest of the lines/variety performed better by producing greater number of fertile tillers m-2, spikelets spike-1, grains spike-1, 1000- grain weight and grain yield. Wheat lines WS-297, WS-11, WS-355 and WS-450 performed better for yield and other traits when compared with the check.
