Abstract:
This work deals with the transient study of fusion reactor (Tokamak) magnetic systems against a perturbation in the electromotive force around the plasma ring which induced a slight change in the plasma current. The magnetic systems of Tokamak reactor fall into two distinctly different categories, the poloidal field (PF) coil system and the toroidal field (TF) coils system. The PF coils are coaxial with the plasma fuel, while the TF coils link or wrap around the plasma fuel. A numerical technique has been used to conduct a steady state and transient analysis studies for magnetic systems of Tokamak. The steady state results of the problem under investigation have been compared with reference data. The aim of the present work is to investigate the safety of fusion reactor magnetic systems under normal transient conditions such as small step decrease or increase in electromotive force (from ± 10% to ± 20% step change). The results showed that Tokamak magnetic systems has inherent safety against this perturbation.
