Abstract:
Yield response of wheat to the applied-P in a silt loam soil belonging to enthropic surface phase of Pirsabak series was studied. Surface soil (0-20 cm) was silt loam with CaCO3; 2.5%; pH, 7.7, Olsen-P, 4.7 mg/kg and organic matter, 1.4%. Pre-treatments 0, 10, 20 and 30 mg/ha of fertilizer P maintained the initial soil phosphorus levels as 4.7, 14.7, 24.7 and 34.7 mg/kg of available P content. Phosphorus treatments of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mg P205/kg of soil along with basal dose of 60 mg N and 45 mg K2O were applied. Dry matter yield gave a significant positive response to the applied P only at the initial soil-P level of 4.7 mg/kg; there was no response at other soil-P levels. Available P in soil and plant tended to increase by almost all levels of applied P particularly at low initial soil-P levels. The critical levels of P, in soil and plant, were found to be 15 mg/kg and 2200 g/g, respectively.
