Abstract:
Barani areas account for 34% of the cultivated area in the Punjab province. Due to arid environment, this area is prone to soil erosion in the form of either wind or water erosion. The present paper has evaluated a gigantic project run by the government to control the water erosion in four tehsils of the Punjab province. Result shows remarkable impact on area under different crops after the completion of the project. Average yield of those farmers who had adopted water conservation practices increased. Maximum gain was in case of vegetables production i.e., 91%. Cropped area, cropping intensity and land use intensity of the project farmers also increased by 36 %, 26 % and 31 %, respectively.
