Abstract:
A research was conducted on pseudo male-to female gender dysphoric (Hijras) having their inborn gender as that of a male and their categorization as such but joins Hijra community for earning. It had three major perspectives; the first was to define, identify and label different types of pseudo Hijras, which usually come under one heading. Participants selected for this research were persons who willingly or unwillingly, live a life opposite to the gender they were born with. These people did not confirmed any degree of gender comfort, they were born with physically male appearance and raised as males but joined the hijra community later for financial reasons. Participants completed an interview-based questionnaire which deals about the types of pseudo gender dysphoric and the reasons for joining their hijra community. Study showed that the pseudo gender dysphoric of Pakistan present themselves as real gender dysphoric to meet their financial needs. These pseudo gender dysphorics wear female clothing, take female names and use female pronouns but are pragmatic in their identification that they are not really women. They prefer their ambiguous status to being men. Most of them belong to poor families; they join Hijra (gender dysphoric) community for their livelihood where they live, cross-dress, dance, sing and beg or become sex workers.
