Abstract:
The lower Triassic Mianwali Formation, of a limited extent in the Kala Chitta Range, has been studied from the Chak Jabbi Section for its biostratigraphy and the microfacies analysis. The occurrence of ammonites has confirmed its Lower Triassic (Scythian) age. The microfacies analysis, depositional style and the diagenetic aspects of the Mianwali Formation have also been outlined. A total number of four microfacies, which include filamentous mudstone, bioclastic wackestone, carbonate mudstone and dolomitized mudstone is identified. The study has contributed towards the detailed aspects of the carbonate shelf deposition in the Tethyan Realm.
