Abstract:
The manufacturing programme are designed keeping track of the local and foreign demand on one hand and taking no chance with the quality of locally available -fibrous material on the other. Till 1930 the basic fibres used by the textile industries of the developed countries were cotton, wool, bast fibres and silk. At the end of 1930 `s the upsurge in the direct application of science to man-made Moms material started producing results. Basically the emergence of manmade fibres was due to the conscious research on development initially on the part of cellulosic producers who drew their strengths and attitude from technology of chemical industry. The systematic advance in manmade fibre development was definitely an outcome of the intensive genius applied primarily in pursuit of fibres possessing higher strength .as compared to natural fibres. So the new industries were established in Europe, Russia .and Japan. There was a large scale expansion of the chemical industries. Textile industries in Britain, Western Europe, Japan and U. S.A were remodelled for large scale consumption of man. In 1970 trend towards large scale automation gained momentum. Industries such as computer, electronics, radioisotope, precision tool and aeronautics expanded greatly so the traditional labour is changed into new and modern industries, as a result the cheap textile imports from the developing countries caused closure of many cotton mills, which caused shrinkage of cotton textile industries. The advance countries were dependent on the cotton textile production facilities of the underdeveloped countries. At present the tide is in the favour of Asian textile due to vast sources of cheap manpower. Manmade fibres offer the following advantages to the spinners. 1) Regular or variable length. (2) Controlled thickness. (3) Perfect clearliness. (4) Availability without being subject to-wild fluctuatlons in quantity and quality.` Manmade fibres are heat resistant and high temperature fibres, high wet modulus, cellulosic fibres, modified natural fibres etc. The textiles made by these fibres are of better appearance, more comfortable and more durable.
