Abstract:
Alveolar macrophages were studied by conventional light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy; using lung lavage. A mixture of cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, mast cells (only few) and vast number of macrophages, were indentifled in the smears of cell suspensions obtained by lung washings. A brief morphological study of these cells was carried out which showed that these cells had numerous surface projections; many lysosomes and vacuoles in the cytoplasm.
