Abstract:
Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to compare Intraocular Pressure measured by the Goldman Applanation Tonometer, and a non-contact airpuff tonometer (NCT) in normal population. Material and Methods: It was a descriptive cross sectional comparative study performed. It consist of 61 eyes of 61 patients were included for this research and Intraocular Pressure measured by Goldman tonometer and Canon TX2OP in The University of Lahore Teaching Hospital, Lahore. Consent form was taken by patients prior to data collection. Data was collected from patients visiting of eye OPD, in university of Lahore Teaching Hospital for 10P. Both these methods are easy and only last a few seconds. If optometrist does the "puff of air" test, you may feel a small amount of air's pressure against your eye. In Goldman Applanation tonometer; measure the 10P with touching the cornea, three readings were recorded. Right eye of all patents were included in this study. Data was collected by self-designed preforma and data analyzed by SPSS version 20. Results: The mean + S.D of age of 40 patients included in this study had 30.49+8.02 with range of 27. The minimum and maximum values were 18 and 45 respectively. Amongst them 33 patients were females and 28 patients were males. The mean + S.D of age of 40 patients included in the study had 14.7213 + 3.517 with range of (13-15). The minimum and maximum values had been (11-13) and (24-28) respectively. Wilcoxon signed rank test was applied to test mean differences as data deviates from the normal distribution. A statistically significant difference found in means NCT and means GAT of right eye of 40 patients with p-value 0.000< 0.05. Conclusion: Air puff tonometer is quick, a non-contact method to measure intraocular pressure and is useful for screening purposes but the measurements should be confirmed with Goldman applanation tonometer for accurate category of intraocular pressure. Compare Non Contact Air Puff Tonometer and the goldmann applanation tonometer that is valid technique for reading of Intraocular Pressure.
