Abstract:
A survey of the cigarette smoking habit amongst postgraduate students of Peshawar University was conducted in October 1992 to May 1993. 588 male and 200 female students from different departments filled up and returned the questionnaires given to them. Out of the total students, 97 (male=96, female=1) were smokers, 34 (male=32, female=2) ex smokers and 657 (male=460, female=197) non-smokers. Most of students were found to smoke for the sake of physical relaxation and reducing mental tension. Majority of the students were non-smokers due to its adverse effect on health.
