Abstract:
The purpose of present study is to remediate oil polluted soil on laboratory scale, by four different chemicals non in situ techniques and comparison of their effectiveness. These treatments have some advantages as low cost, short term and easily available chemicals. As a result, when amount of hydrocarbons in samples was very high, thermal treatment and kerosene washing treatments were found to be more effective. When amount of hydrocarbons in polluted samples were less (75.754 g/kg), than calcium hypochlorite treatment gives good result. Hydrogen peroxide treatment was effective when amount of oil was comparatively less (1.59 g/kg). Thermal treatment was found to give as much as 98.46% reduction of oil in polluted soil samples.
