Abstract:
Many insecticides have been found to interfere with the Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme of insects. In the present investigation the activity of AChE in blister beetle, (Mylabris phallerata Pall.), treated with different insecticides are reported. Administration of 1 dose/insect of 0.1% synthetic insecticides (malathion and chlorpyriphos), and natural insecticides (nicotine and azadirachtin) resulted in inhibition of AChE by 15%, 32% and 59%, respectively. At lower concentrations of azadirachtin, stimulation in AChE activity was recorded. The corresponding increases as compared to control were 19% and 49% at the applied doses of 0.05% and 0.025% azadirachtin.
