Abstract:
Quality of service has not been formally demarcated. For telephony, QoS was defined in 1994 by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) (Recommendation E.800). The demarcation is inclusive, including six key components: Support, Accessibility, Retainability, Operability, Security and Integrity. QoS is an important aspect for all forthcoming broad band technologies and WiMAX is a prominent technology in this regard. This technology is based on 802.16 standard of IEEE. This standard defines a general QoS architecture. Scheduling mechanism is the main part of this architecture that is also left open for vendors. As a result many scheduling strategies have been proposed and research on their comparative studies has been done. [1] and [2] has done comparison of three while [3] has taken six algorithms. [4] Have discussed the scheduling mechanism on the basis of distributed and centralized criteria. In this survey paper, first we have explored key feature, then compared and analyzed thirteen different approaches of scheduling strategies for WiMAX network. Additionally, detailed WiMAX service classes, their respective mandatory parameters and applications are also presented.
