Water scarcity – Alarming threat for Balochistan.

Abstract:
In the globally changing Scenario, Water is becoming an alarming issue and serious problem for every community in any corner of the globe. Keeping in view the same facts, the research study concerned was conducted to investigate that how to cater this alarming and serious issue and how to overcome on the said problem. The broader aim of the study was to make an effort towards bringing together various stake holders to deliberate on the issue of water scarcity and the resulting human suffering, its expanse and remedial measures to be taken. The issue of water scarcity has been recognized as a serious threat to lively hoods throughout the province. Though the major parts of the province were severely affected through drought but at the same time the drilling of tube wells were also in progress which ultimately resulted the great scarcity of water in the province. The water problems arise more from poor governance and lack of interest and commitment by the public and private sectors in solving the issue. Social problems in the province have mostly been traditional and persistent. While in the province where water has always been a scarce commodity, the constant abuse of natural resources since the last many decades is posing a challenge to the policy makers. Exploitation of the limited resources were causing depletion of water table at an alarming rate in many natural aquifers. Flood irrigation; high rate of drilling of tube wells; Industrial waste, pesticides / fertilizers contamination and lack of proper irrigation techniques and improper water management resulted 40 percent loses and create the serious scarcity of water in the province.
