Abstract:
Isotactic polypropylene and the plastic waste based on this polymer was decomposed at 350-800°C in an open tubular type pyrolyzer. Production of volatile products was monitored by gas chromatography. Methane, nbutane, 2-methyl pentane, 2, 4-dirnethyl pentane and 2, 4-dimethyl-1-haptene were the major pyrolysis products from both the standard polymer and the waste. The effect of sample size, temperature and residence time on the distribution of these products was studied. The results were compared and discussed for both the standard and waste material.
