The development of materials for training mid-level health workers in Pakistan.

Abstract:
The Federal Division of Health and the four Provincial Health Departments have embarked upon a long term programme to strengthen the rural health care system. The keystone of this programme is the expansion of the number of mid-level health workers (ML-HWs). This term MLHW is loosely defined but generally refers to a person competent to provide allopathic health services, both curative and preventive, under the overall supervision of qualified physicians. In some cases MLHWs will be under the direct supervision of a doctor. In other cases this supervision, by necessity, will be remote and periodic. Twenty-three "training modules", have been developed as a complete curriculum for the class-room phase of the MLHW training programme.
