Abstract:
The history of family planning programmes in Japan has been traced. The number of induced abortions reached the maximum of 1,170,000 in 1955, and then began to decrease, reaching 843,000 in 1965. However, the birth rate fell from 19.4% in 1955 to 18.5% in 1965. This is due to the use of contraceptive methods. Oral pills and IUD are still not permitted to be used by the public.
